Robin Koury – From the Crib to the Kitchen
Without hesitation Robin Koury recalls her fondest memories in life include her family and food. From an early age she found a special attachment to her maternal grandfather, Bill. The inseparable duo used their stomachs as a compass to guide them on countless culinary adventures, often leading them several hours away in search of the best burger, Italian pastries, or roadside stands.
These culinary adventures were always justified as “research” for family gatherings. Each Sunday Bill prepared his take on the food he and his granddaughter discovered. While in the kitchen Robin kept a watchful eye on Bill often mimicking his motions and techniques. It wasn’t long before she realized that delicious food brought her family together and she was hooked.
After Bill’s passing in the late ‘90s Robin continued her quest for epicurean bliss. With the introduction of the Internet her search seemed to have no bounds. However, it wasn’t until she met her husband Walter that she truly began to blossom in the kitchen. Walter a talented home-cook introduced Robin to a new world of flavors and cooking techniques. He taught her that delicious and affordable meals are easily created with very little time or culinary experience. Robin was inspired by the concept and decided to expand upon it with Walter’s help.
Over the next few years Koury developed a talent and passion for creating easy and delicious meal solutions for today’s time and budget stressed families. Robin is a master at using the grocery circular to not only save money but to create menu diversity. Koury has often been quoted saying neither time; skill or money should never keep a family from enjoying a delicious meal seven nights a week. She is determined to bring America back to the dinner the table to savor both the flavors and memories that only a family dinner can provide without breaking the bank.
In 2005 Robin expanded her dining on a dime concept and began to incorporate entertaining as well. At most dinner parties, Robin found the host was virtually missing and held captive in the kitchen preparing food or drinks most of the evening. Robin was often left thinking there must be a way for the host of the event to actually partake in their own party. After a few sleepless nights, proper menu planning and a lot of organization Robin sent out the invitations to her own soiree vowing not to spend more then 15 minutes in the kitchen during the course of the party. Amazingly, the dinner party went even better than expected and Robin knew she was on to something. Koury hosted several more dining events that year each with a different purpose and theme working to perfect her concept. Only a year later Robin became the go-to-person for many of her family, friends, and clients for assistance in developing party themes and menus.
Both the national and local media regularly source Koury as a grilling and menu-planning expert. Robin was featured on the premiere season Grill It! with Bobby Flay where she created her famous Spice of Life Beer Can Chicken and Grilled Mac & Cheese. Additionally, she has been seen chatting it up with Sunny Anderson during the Food Network Ultimate Recipe Showdown Viewing Parties and facing off against Michael Mazzariello of the nationally syndicated Street Court in a radio grilling debate!
Today, Robin resides in New York with her husband Walter and beloved Silky Terrier Hunter Chloe. Koury can always be found with a spatula in one hand and a fork in the other ready to taste her way through life!
